The Art Workers' Guild

East London Textile Arts' (ELTA) are now exhibiting their two-year-long project, Textile Tales Revealed, at the Guild until the end of March. You can visit by appointment, please call 020 7713 0966 or email gemma@artworkersguild.org to book.
ELTA are a creative collective (including Guild members Sonia Tuttiett, Celia Ward, and Rachael Matthews) who run participatory textile projects in Newham, East London. They work with diverse groups of all abilities on a long term basis, helping to build a wide range of skills within local communities. They have worked with the Watts Gallery, Tate Exchange, The V&A, King’s College London as well as having a long-term relationship with the Guild.
This project explores both the centuries-old textile heritage of Newham, and the 15 year history of ELTA. Work by adults with learning disabilities is an integral part of the exhibition, which is a collaboration between ELTA and several community groups including Eastside Community Heritage, The McGrath Makers, New Social Services Adult Care, East Ham Library Embroidery Group, Hopeful Futures CIC and School 360, and was funded by The National Lottery and The de Laszlo Foundation. ELTA will also be showing a second exhibition of work from this project at Stratford Library until Saturday 31 January.
