Aidan Mortimer

Following a Diploma in Building Management at Oxford Polytechnic (now Oxford Brookes), Aidan Mortimer established and ran his own building company specialising in restoration and traditional construction. In 1997, he gained an MSc in Historic Conservation from Oxford Brookes University and Rewley House, Oxford University. In 2000, he became Chief Executive of Symm Group. 

He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building (FCIOB); a member of Institute of Classical Architecture and Art – based in New York; a Fellow of The Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce (FRSA) and sits on the judging panel of the Prince’s Foundation’s Building Skill in Craft Apprentices Programme.  In 2013 Aidan was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS).

Recently published work includes an essay ’The Importance of Joinery in the Classical House, in Phillip Dodd’s book, The Art of Classical Details and the foreword to The Comfort of the Past, Building in Oxford and Beyond 1815-2015.
