Laurence studied animation both at the London College of Printing and at the Surrey Institute. He worked on the short lived comic the DFC and then on its replacement The Phoenix. He designed the masthead logo and worked closely with the contributors. Since leaving the Phoenix he has worked as a freelance designer for both commercial publishers and private presses. Among his regular clients are Joe Pearson of Design For Today, Routledge educational Publishers and Jennings Fine Art for whom Laurence designs all the catalogues and private view invitations.
