Our latest project, The New Courtyard Project, begun in 2015, is designed to improve the courtyard on the ground floor and upgrade the access and facilities for disabled people.
The project is divided into two phases. Phase one, which improved the courtyard and facilities for disabled people on the ground floor, is complete. The courtyard now has double the amount of usable space and the aesthetics are more in keeping with the rest of the building.
'Raising the Roof', the second phase of the project, is about building a permanent roof to protect the new courtyard from rain and bad weather, transforming it into a breakout and exhibition space.
More than simply a building project, this is a creative collaboration that expresses the very essence of the Art Workers’ Guild. Designed and crafted by the Guild’s own members, the glazed barrel vault roof will be constructed using cast iron ribs and is designed to be complementary to the existing architecture, in that its aesthetics are craft orientated and largely handmade.
