Introduction

The Canning Factory was formed by award winning animator Kate Canning in 1983 to produce a wide range of television animation, publishing and graphics. Productions include “Little Cilla” for Cilla Black and LWT and Painted Tales” an animated series for Channel 4. The Canning Factory has evolved to become a specialist in the development of intellectual properties produced for the international animation market.

2 development commissions Fred Basset and Ragbag are in progress for VGI Entertainment UK. Marilyn Monrobot, a novel animated waste project inspired by a US exhibition of recycled artefacts ‘HELLO AGAIN’, is presently in development and has received US seed funding. The exhibition will be shown at the United Nations NY, in ’06.

Canning Factory has developed good business relationships in Vietnam and Korea , and has recently helped to co-ordinate UK/Korean creative industries seminars in UK and Korea .

“Ebb & Flo” 26 x 5 minutes series , published by Orchard Books is in production with co-production partners Hahn Film Berlin , Channel 5 UK and VGI Entertainment UK with over 25 pre-sales already confirmed. The show will be broadcast in Spring 2005. The latest project for Channel 5, “Ophelia” abouta Scottish sheep, 26 x 5 minutes, a series for 4 to 6 year olds is in final stages of financing.

The internationally successful BAFTA nominated ITV children’s series “James the Cat” (52 x 5‘), was created, written and produced by Kate Canning. It has been shown in over 30 countries, including US Nickelodeon TV, over a six year period. The latest series co-produced with Gullane Entertainment (now part of Hit Entertainment) airs on Channel 5 and Nickelodeon UK . UNICEF has published “James” as greetings cards, and offered endorsement for “James” storylines.

Other internationally successful television productions have been: “Chinese Word for Horse”, a theatrical short, commissioned for the acclaimed US kids show BIG BLUE MARBLE, shown on BBC and nominated for a BAFTA award. Award winning “Flower Stories” (13 x 10’), also BAFTA nominated, produced with HTV , UK and Taurus Films Germany, sold extremely well around the world.

The company’s plan is to continue to develop and co-produce a raft of quality animation projects over the coming years.
