Introduction
My great interest is the juxtaposition of objects and the chiaro scuro of light and shade, hence the majority of my pictures are still lives. I get very excited by green grocers, the bloom on plums the rosyness of apples and the grey green of artichokes.
I am an associate member of the British Restorers & Conservators, as well as registered with the Museum & Galleries Commission.
Biography
I studied at the Studio of Signorina Simi in Florence It was like an eighteenth century atelier, where the strict discipline of drawing was paramount. First drawing from the cast in charcoal sharpened to a needle like point, then graduating to the model. It was considered normal to work on a drawing for six months. Finally after about four years graduating to using oil paint- no medium was ever used
I was privileged at the same time to work as an apprentice to Professor Vanmerhan at the Gabinetto del Restauro at the Uffizi in Florence. After the floods in Florence on November 6th 1966 it was literally all hands to the pump in helping to save not only the paintings which were in store at the museum but also frescos in the churches and other precious artefacts in the city and its surroundings.
