Introduction
I am a figurative painter-printmaker concerned with visual rather than narrative ideas. I try to find a resolution between abstract qualities of composition, colour, line and shape, and the particularity and individuality of people and landscape. I work directly from life or from drawings made from life, in oil, watercolour, and etching, lino or woodcut. I have fulfilled a number of public commissions, particularly for hospitals, usually site-specific large-scale figure compositions. Commissions include a Jerwood Commission for 2 paintings for the Royal College of Paediatrics,a painting for East Belfast Community Treatment Centre(2005), and a painting for Salisbury District Hospital (2007.I exhibit regularly, recent solo shows have been A Year on the Marshat Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery(2004); ‘Drawings for Paintings’at The Cut, Halesworth, Suffolk(2006) and The Prince’s Drawing School,London (2007),where I also teach.
