Introduction
Quote from the Portman, issue 6, Summer 2002
‘one of the keys to the way in which Hogan works is her need to know her subjects very well, be they places or people, before painting them. ‘I want to have the ‘feel’ of someone - a gesture, the way their hair falls, facial expressions. It’s the same for buildings, I need to know about the character of a place or a building, how they are used and how people interact in them’. Places really need to be more than familiar to her; they need to be a part of her everyday as well as her artistic life’.
