Introduction

Sophie MacCarthy has lived and worked as a potter in Hackney east london for the last 30 years
She makes highly decorative earthenware ceramics employing a painterly approach to themes such as leaves scattered on the ground or floating in puddles or pools of water. Other motifs are birds, fish and hares.

Trained in ceramics at Amersham college of Art 1974-1977
Wimbledon School of Art 1981-1984 Sculpture
Taught ceramics at Morley College 1990 -2002
