Introduction

My artistic practice has been profoundly influenced by exposure to two vastly different environments. Firstly, growing up with minimal art and modern architecture, which gave me the visual language of reduced and economical form and a fascination with systems, repetition and order. Secondly, the regular witnessing of the raw power of the East Anglian coastline. This presented chaos giving me an awareness of natural laws and an interest in physical matter.

I have developed many processes for creating my work through years of experimenting. I uses geological materials collected from the landscape including quarries. The creative process begins by preparing the material by grinding it down or through meticulously separating it out. Using a variety of techniques this matter is then applied onto an armature. Layer upon layer are built up forming permanent and textural surfaces.

Through my work I seek to reach a combination of ingredients, aiming for a point of tension and harmony where a frisson occurs.
