Introduction
Georgy Mkrtichian was born in Tbilisi in Georgia to an Armenian family. Influenced by the long-lived Georgian and Armenuan woodcarving traditions, he specialised in wood technology at art school, graduating with honours and won a medal in Moscow for woodcarving in 1982.
He moved to London in 1994 and has collaborated with private collectors on a range of commisioned pieces. Some of his carved frames are featured in the Imperial War Museum and he has recently worked on a frame for a major Sienese painting at the National Gallery.
