Introduction

Chris Topp and Company are leading Artist Blacksmiths in the design and making of both traditional and modern Ironwork. Our in-house design team are not only specialist ironwork designers but also have a thorough understanding of the fundamental craft skills of the blacksmith, as practised by our workshop. By combining these skills we aim to create contemporary work which will be the heritage ironwork of future generations.

Chris Topp’s Ironwork adds artistic value to its architectural environment. Our gates are purposely designed to create the right first impressions whilst our balustrades ensure stylish ascents. Our reputation for high quality ironwork has lead to a client list including; Buckingham Palace, St Paul’s, Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abby and Hampton Court.
All work is done to commission and whilststyles vary from the avant-garde to traditional, all projects are carried out to the highest standards making use of ancient wisdom in respect of techniques of construction. By using a wide variety of hot-forging processes, which radically change the section, surface and appearance of ordinary metal bar, our ironwork distinguishes itself by taking on a character of its own. In addition to this forging techniques allow us an unparalleled freedom in the design of our metalwork. We also work in a variety of metals – wrought and cast iron, mild and stainless steel, bronze, brass and copper included.
The restoration of heritage ironwork led to establishing The Real Wrought Iron Company which is, as far as we are aware, the only supplier in the world today of genuine wrought iron, puddled & charcoal.
Whilst we offer a total design service, our in-house designers are equally happy to work with our clients design concepts. A consultancy service is also available for the restoration, renovation and design of ironwork.

  • Circle of Friends

    Title: Circle of Friends
    Dimensions: 650mm diameter x 110mm deep
    Media: Genuine Wrought Iron
Description: An exploration of ‘friendship’. This wall sculpture represents our various ‘circles of friends’ held together by shaking, holding and supportive hands. The way the rings interlink, change size and use the space to create depth shows the different aspects of true friendship, as opposed to the shallow & superficial.
This design is a development from our winning submission for the ‘Pillar of Friendship’, a 7m high sculpture created by the British Artist Blacksmith Association, due to be exhibited in Liverpool from September 2008.
